PSX Closing Bell: Herd is Back

December 23, 2024 (MLN): The benchmark KSE-100 Index concluded Monday's trading session at 113,924.41, showing an increase of 4,411.27 points or 4.03%.

The index remained positive throughout the day showing an intraday high of 114,189.71 (+4,676.57) and a low of 110,891.35 (+1,378.21) points.

The total volume of the KSE-100 Index was 424.81 million shares.

Of the 100 index companies 91 closed up, and 9 were closed down.

Top gainers during the day were CNERGY (+14.89%), PGLC (+10.03%), PSO (+10.00%), TRG (+10.00%), and ENGRO (+10.00%).

On the other hand, top losers were MEHT (-5.31%), SCBPL (-2.75%), PSEL (-2.00%), CHCC (-1.94%), and JDWS (-1.40%).

In terms of index-point contributions, companies that propped up the index were OGDC (+380.79pts), ENGRO (+350.06pts), FFC (+321.05pts), PSO (+276.32pts), and DAWH (+225.93pts).

Meanwhile, companies that dragged the index lower were MEHT (-27.54pts), CHCC (-21.20pts), PSEL (-12.45pts), SCBPL (-9.76pts), and NML (-4.17pts).

Sector-wise, KSE-100 Index was supported by Oil & Gas Exploration Companies (+882.18pts), Fertilizer (+847.47pts), Commercial Banks (+707.25pts), Oil & Gas Marketing Companies (+393.85pts), and Technology & Communication (+306.45pts).

While the index was let down by Textile Composite (-17.21pts), Sugar & Allied Industries (-2.77pts), Property (+0.04pts), Woollen (+0.09pts), and Textile Weaving (+0.15pts).

In the broader market, the All-Share Index closed at 71,629.87 with a net gain of 2,417.75 points or 3.49%.

Total market volume was 857.83 million shares compared to 754.92m from the previous session while traded value was recorded at Rs50.55 billion showing an increase of Rs11.12bn.

There were 416,351 trades reported in 463 companies with 361 closing up, 62 closing down, and 40 remaining unchanged.

To note, the KSE-100 has gained 35,479 points or 45.23% during the fiscal year, whereas it has increased 51,473 points or 82.42% so far this calendar year.
