PSX Closing Bell: Going Gets Tough

April 23, 2025 (MLN): The benchmark KSE-100 Index concluded Wednesday's trading session at 117,226.14, showing a decrease of 1,204.21 points or 1.02%.

The index traded in a range of 1,690.85 points showing an intraday high of 118,811.24 (+380.89) and a low of 117,120.39 (-1,309.96) points.

The total volume of the KSE-100 Index was 242.52 million shares.

Of the 100 index companies 20 closed up, 76 closed down, 3 were unchanged, while 1 remained untraded.

Top losers during the day were HMB (-5.35%), POML (-4.89%), AGL (-4.80%), LCI (-4.26%), and NBP (-4.22%).

On the other hand, top gainers were NATF (+9.37%), IBFL (+3.65%), GADT (+3.42%), EFUG (+3.14%), and BWCL (+2.59%).

In terms of index-point contributions, companies that dragged the index lower were UBL (-163.63pts), HUBC (-117.97pts), MARI (-83.55pts), ENGROH (-81.81pts), and HMB (-79.15pts).

Meanwhile, companies that added points to the index were NATF (+39.61pts), OGDC (+23.02pts), BWCL (+21.49pts), MCB (+16.45pts), and THALL (+8.86pts).

Sector-wise, KSE-100 Index was let down by Commercial Banks (-420.51pts), Power Generation & Distribution (-143.41pts), Oil & Gas Exploration Companies (-101.64pts), Inv. Banks / Inv. Cos. / Securities Cos. (-84.19pts), and Technology & Communication (-73.70pts).

While the index was supported by Food & Personal Care Products (+39.97pts), Automobile Parts & Accessories (+8.86pts), Synthetic & Rayon (+6.32pts), Tobacco (+6.17pts), and Textile Spinning (+2.83pts).

In the broader market, the All-Share Index closed at 73,365.85 with a net loss of 506.80 points or 0.69%.

Total market volume was 605.18 million shares compared to 740.87m from the previous session while traded value was recorded at Rs27.76 billion showing a decrease of Rs2.75bn.

There were 321,059 trades reported in 455 companies with 127 closing up, 274 closing down, and 54 remaining unchanged.

To note, the KSE-100 has gained 38,781 points or 49.44% during the fiscal year, whereas it has increased 2,099 points or 1.82% so far this calendar year.
