PSX Closing Bell: Red Runs Deep

September 24, 2026 (MLN): The benchmark KSE-100 Index plunged 1,733.57 points or 1.01% on Thursday to close at 170,498.94, as broad-based selling across key sectors erased most of the previous session’s gains.

The decline reflected renewed profit-taking and selling pressure, with heavy losses in commercial banks, cement, exploration, power, and refinery stocks weighing on market sentiment. The index’s breadth remained sharply negative, with 87 of 100 index constituents closing lower.

The index traded in a range of 2,072.78 points, hitting an intraday high of 172,491.16, up 258.65 points, before falling to a low of 170,418.38, down 1,814.13 points.

KSE-100 volume rose to 314.82m shares during the session.


Among the major losers, KEL fell 7.35%, followed by CNERGY (-5.87%), TGL (-4.64%), ATRL (-3.64%), and NBP (-3.18%).

The gainers were led by GAL, which rose 1.38%, followed by AGP (+1.17%), INIL (+1.00%), EFERT (+0.64%), and HUMNL (+0.50%).


UBL was the biggest drag on the index, taking away 199.98 points, followed by LUCK (-139.01pts), MARI (-109.23pts), HUBC (-102.69pts), and NBP (-98.44pts).

On the contrary, EFERT added 26.48 points to the index, while HBL, GAL, AGP, and INIL contributed 17.10pts, 6.03pts, 5.43pts, and 3.54pts, respectively.


Sector-wise, Commercial Banks led the decline with a negative contribution of 493.67 points, followed by Cement (-279.27pts), Oil & Gas Exploration Companies (-218.93pts), Power Generation & Distribution (-158.48pts), and Refinery (-105.72pts).

Meanwhile, Real Estate Investment Trusts provided a marginal 1.47-point support, while Paper, Board & Packaging added 0.61 points. Leasing Companies, Tobacco, and Woollen sectors remained broadly flat.


In the broader market, the All-Share Index closed at 103,103.09, shedding 1,128.70 points or 1.08%.

Total market volume stood at 759.97m shares compared to 773.59m in the previous session, while traded value increased by Rs1.09bn to Rs27.54bn.

A total of 372,321 trades were reported across 494 companies, with 100 stocks closing higher, 358 lower, and 36 unchanged.

To note, the KSE-100 has lost 9,803 points or 5.44% during the fiscal year, whereas it has decreased 3,555 points or 2.04% so far this calendar year.
