PSX Closing Bell: From Green to Mean

July 26, 2024 (MLN): Pakistan stocks experienced a volatile session, which concluded with the bears dragging the index into the red zone.

Accordingly, the benchmark KSE-100 Index concluded the trading session at 78,029.50, showing a decrease of 439.83 points or 0.56%.

The index traded in a range of 648.41 points showing an intraday high of 78,569.88 (+100.55) and a low of 77,921.47 (-547.86) points.

The total volume of the KSE-100 Index was 116.86 million shares.

Of the 100 index companies 24 closed up, 71 closed down, while 5 were unchanged.

Top losers during the day were NPL (-5.05%), PSX (-4.25%), SNGP (-3.62%), NRL (-3.15%), and INIL (-2.94%).

On the other hand, top gainers were YOUW (+3.09%), BAFL (+2.38%), HGFA (+2.29%), PGLC (+1.99%), and THALL (+1.95%).

In terms of index-point contributions, companies that dragged the index lower were HBL (-52.38pts), OGDC (-46.15pts), MEBL (-44.09pts), PPL (-35.53pts), and FFC (-33.00pts).

Meanwhile, companies that added points to the index were BAHL (+46.30pts), UBL (+40.46pts), BAFL (+34.82pts), THALL (+9.87pts), and HUBC (+8.93pts).

Sector-wise, KSE-100 Index was let down by Oil & Gas Exploration Companies (-106.58pts), Technology & Communication (-59.62pts), Fertilizer (-57.70pts), Oil & Gas Marketing Companies (-56.91pts), and Commercial Banks (-20.02pts).

While the index was supported by Automobile Parts & Accessories (+9.87pts), Tobacco (+6.91pts), Miscellaneous (+5.78pts), Property (+1.31pts), and Close - End Mutual Fund (+1.26pts).

In the broader market, the All-Share Index closed at 49,603.98 with a net loss of 331.05 points or 0.66%.

Total market volume was 278.33 million shares compared to 327.28m from the previous session while traded value was recorded at Rs11.62 billion showing a decrease of Rs3.66bn.

There were 181,576 trades reported in 429 companies with 114 closing up, 255 closing down, and 60 remaining unchanged.

To note, the KSE-100 has lost -415 points or 0.53% during the fiscal year, whereas the ongoing calendar year has witnessed a cumulative increase of 15,578 points, equivalent to 24.95%.
