Intraday Report: KSE-100 drops 1.26% amid post-election chaos

October 02, 2023 (MLN): The benchmark KSE-100 Index ended Monday's trading session at 46,627.08 showing an increase of 394.49 points or 0.85%.

The positive sentiment stemmed from the caretaker government's announcement of a cut in the prices of petrol and diesel, reducing them by Rs8 and Rs11 per liter respectively.

Moreover, the Pakistani Rupee gained another rupee in today's session, after closing September as the world’s best-performing currency, appreciating by 6.19% against the US Dollar, its second-highest monthly gain since 2014.

The index remained positive through the session showing an intraday high of 46,704.64 (+472.04) points.

The total volume of the KSE-100 Index was 100.351 million shares.

KSE-100 Intraday Performance

Of the 100 index companies 56 closed up, 35 closed down, 4 were unchanged, while 5 remained untraded.

KSE-100 index was supported by Oil & Gas Exploration Companies with 113.46, Technology & Communication with 85.15, Fertilizer with 61.64, Commercial Banks with 48.25, and Oil & Gas Marketing Companies with 23.81 points.

Companies adding points to the index were SYS with 73.46, ENGRO with 58.53, OGDC with 54.05, POL with 32.49, and PPL with 27.01 points.

KSE-100 Index was let down by Pharmaceuticals with 7.8, Synthetic & Rayon with 3.14, Leather & Tanneries with 2.71, Transport with 2.55, and Cement with 2.34 points.

Companies dragging the index lower were BAFL with 13.85, HBL with 7.82, FFC with 6.06, ABOT with 5.78 and KEL with 4.79 points.

In the broader market, the All-Share index closed at 31,372.93 with a net gain of 214.23 points.

Total market volume was 202.599 million shares compared to 177.617 from the previous session while traded value being recorded at Rs7.40 billion showing an increase of Rs0.47bn.

There were 96,445 trades reported in 328 companies with 166 closing up, 142 closing down and 20 remaining unchanged.

To note, the KSE-100 has gained 5,174 points or 12.48% during the fiscal year, whereas the ongoing calendar year has witnessed a cumulative increase of 6,207 points, equivalent to 15.36% in the KSE-100.
