April 13, 2023 (MLN): Following yesterday's momentum, the capital market on Thursday started on a positive note as investors cheered the positive news on the IMF front wherein the official of the fund expressed hope that the staff-level agreement to be signed soon which led the benchmark KSE-100 index to mark an intraday high of  40,417.97. 

However, political instability and prevailing uncertainty forced investors to opt for the wait-and-see strategy.

As a result, the benchmark KSE-100 index ended the trading session at 40,205.54, up by only 79.49 points.

Of the 93 traded companies in the KSE100 Index 51 closed up 40 closed down, while 2 remained unchanged. The total volume traded for the index was 45.81 million shares.

Sectors propping up the index were Commercial Banks with 34 points, Power Generation & Distribution with 21 points, Cement with 18 points, Oil & Gas Exploration Companies with 11 points and Technology & Communication with 9 points.

The most points added to the index were by HUBC which contributed 21 points followed by MEBL with 19 points, LUCK with 11 points, OGDC and BAHL with 10 points.

Sector-wise, the index was let down by Chemical with 10 points, Miscellaneous with 9 points, Tobacco with 7 points, Fertilizer with 3 points and Glass & Ceramics with 2 points.

The most points taken off the index was by PSEL which stripped the index of 13 points followed by EPCL with 12 points, PAKT and ENGRO with 7 points and POL with 5 points.

All Share Volume increased by 9.36mn to 89.19mn shares. Market Cap increased by Rs2.50 billion.

The total number of companies traded were 311 compared to 328 from the previous session. Of the scrips traded 138 closed up, 147 closed down and 26 remained unchanged.

Total trades increased by 2,828 to 52,202.

Value Traded increased by 0.20bn to Rs2.77bn.
