December 15, 2021 (MLN): The capital markets witnessed a bullish momentum on Wednesday as a lower than expected policy rate hike of 100 bps by MPC helped spark a rally.

It was further fueled by the statement of the central bank’s forward guidance that policy rate would remain broadly unchanged in the near term, Ahsan Mehanti, Managing Director at Arif Habib Commodities said while talking to Mettis Global.

Resultantly, the benchmark KSE-100 index ended the trading session with a 1120.15 point or 2.59 percent gain to close at 44,366.86.

The index remained positive throughout the session touching an intraday high of 44,507.51

Of the 96 traded companies in the KSE100 Index, 81 closed up 14 closed down, while 1 remained unchanged. The total volume traded for the index was 178.35 million shares.

Sectors propping up the index were Cement with 263 points, Technology & Communication with 196 points, Oil & Gas Exploration Companies with 110 points, Oil & Gas Marketing Companies with 74 points and Chemical with 62 points.

The most points added to the index was by LUCK which contributed 124 points followed by SYS with 91 points, TRG with 81 points, PPL with 60 points and PSO with 50 points.

Sector wise, the index was let down by Commercial Banks with 2 points and Modarabas with 1 points.

The most points taken off the index was by BAHL which stripped the index of 30 points followed by HUBC with 8 points, HBL with 8 points, MUREB with 5 points and MARI with 3 points.

All Share Volume increased by 185.74 Million to 398.09 Million Shares. Market Cap increased by Rs.190.33 Billion.

Total companies traded were 374 compared to 323 from the previous session. Of the scrips traded 305 closed up, 60 closed down while 9 remained unchanged.

Total trades increased by 44,220 to 137,959.

Value Traded increased by 4.88 Billion to Rs.11.65 Billion
