Power Cement on its way to increase production capacity to 3.5 Million Tons: Progress Report

Power Cement Limited has reported, in a notification to the Pakistan Stock Exchange, that till the quarter ended June 30, 2018, it has received 62% of the shipments for the supply of engineering and equipment regarding a complete cement plant.

The company has been going through an expansion plan to install a new line of 7700 TPD at its existing site.

During early 2017, equipment supply and supervision contracts were signed with F.L.Smidth, a world-renowned cement plant manufacturer based in Copenhagen, Denmark. Letters of Credit were established for the same year.

Construction and Erection Contract had also been finalized with TEPC (China-based company) and the Company has since been working actively to complete the project within due timelines.

As per its Progress Report for the quarter ended June 30, 2018, Mechanical and Electrical drawings have been completed up to over 98% while mobilization advances in respect of new 40 MW Grid Station have been paid. The design phase of the Grid Station is in the final stage and the contractor M/s Midas Engineering, deployed at the site, has started the civil work. The erection of the plant will start once the civil foundation work is completed.

The contract for the civil construction and mechanical erection work was awarded to a well-known Chinese contractor CECC Tianjin (Pakistan) Electric Power Construction (Pvt.) Limited. The contractor is fully mobilized at the plant site and civil works have started. Up to now, 52% of the civil works have been completed.

Once the said expansion is complete, PCL’s cost efficiency with regard to cement manufacturing in Pakistan is expected to increase, and as per the company, it will become the second largest cement producer in South Zone, having an annual production capacity of 3.5 Million Tons. The plant has a good approach to Karachi city, Interior Sindh as well as direct links to both Seaports of Karachi.
