PKR inches up against USD

June 19, 2026 (MLN): The Pakistani rupee edged up 0.77 paisa against the US dollar in the interbank market on Friday, settling at PKR 278.25 per USD against the previous close of PKR 278.26.

Intraday, the exchange rate fluctuated between a high (bid) of PKR 278.30 and a low (ask) of PKR 278.25.

In the open market, exchange companies quoted the greenback at PKR 278.50 for buying and PKR 279.30 for selling.

Against major currencies, the rupee gained PKR 1.19, or 0.37%, versus the euro to close at PKR 318.74, from PKR 319.93 in the prior session.

It appreciated PKR 1.87, or 0.51%, against the British pound to PKR 367.42, from PKR 369.29 previously.

The local unit rose PKR 2.31, or 0.67%, against the Swiss franc to PKR 344.76, while it strengthened 0.66 paisa, or 0.38%, versus the Japanese yen to PKR 1.7253, compared to PKR 1.7319 a session earlier.

Against the Chinese yuan, the rupee firmed 3.92 paisa, or 0.10%, to PKR 41.11 from PKR 41.14.

It posted marginal gains against the Saudi riyal up 0.20 paisa to PKR 74.14 and advanced 0.83 paisa versus the UAE dirham to close at PKR 75.76.

On a fiscal year-to-date basis, the rupee has gained PKR 5.51, or 1.98%, against the dollar, while the calendar year-to-date appreciation stands at PKR 1.87, or 0.67%.

In the money market, the benchmark six-month Karachi Interbank Bid and Offer rates each eased 3 basis points to 11.79% and 12.04%, respectively.
