PM Shehbaz Sharif pushes for electricity infrastructure upgrade

April 19, 2024 (MLN): Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has called for a plan on a priority basis for the up-gradation of electricity transmission systems and distribution companies, a recent post by the Information Ministry revealed.

Chairing a meeting regarding the power sector in Islamabad yesterday, he directed the authorities concerned to submit a plan in this regard within a week.

The Prime Minister ordered to expedite the process of privatization and outsourcing of distribution companies.

He said circular debt will be reduced by bringing reforms in the power sector. He reiterated his commitment that those involved in power pilferage will not be allowed to harm the country's treasury.

Shehbaz Sharif also issued directives to complete major power transmission system-related projects within the stipulated period.
