PM orders crackdown on sugar hoarding

March 15, 2025 (MLN): Strict action has been ordered against sugar hoarders and those manipulating supply to create an artificial shortage and inflate prices, following directives from Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif.

Chairing a review meeting on sugar consumption, supply, and provision at fixed prices in Islamabad, the Prime Minister emphasized that no one would be allowed to hoard sugar or manipulate prices through speculative trading.

He directed a crackdown on profiteers and hoarders, with a report to be submitted on the actions taken, as per the press release.

He also instructed authorities to closely monitor sugar consumption and supply while coordinating with sugar mills to ensure stability.

Assuring that the country has an ample supply of sugar, the Prime Minister stressed that those creating an artificial crisis should be brought to justice.

He reaffirmed the government's commitment to preventing the exploitation of the common man by mafias during Ramazan.

He also directed the Chief Secretaries of all four provinces to ensure sugar is provided to the public at fixed prices.

During the meeting, the Prime Minister received a detailed briefing on sugar consumption, supply, and current prices.
