PKR weakens by 6 paisa against greenback

June 19, 2023 (MLN): The Pakistani rupee (PKR) depreciated by 6.1 paisa against the US dollar in Monday's interbank session as the currency settled the trade at PKR 287.25 per USD, compared to the previous session's closing of PKR 287.19 per USD.

The Currency saw an intraday high (bid) of 287.38 and a low (ask) of 287.28.

In the open market, exchange companies quoted the dollar at 292 for buying and 296 for selling.

In comparison to major currencies, PKR gained 30.66 paisa against the Euro, closing at 313.91 compared to the previous value of 314.22.

The British Pound became more expensive by 81.06 paisa closing at 368.07 compared to 367.26 from a day ago.

The Swiss franc saw losses of 72.39 paisa, closing at 321.24 compared to 321.96 from the previous session.

Against the Japanese Yen, PKR gained 0.97 paisa, closing at 2.02 versus 2.03 a day ago.

The Chinese Yuan lost 18.91 paisa, closing at 40.13 against 40.32 from the previous session.

The Saudi Riyal increased in value by 1.88 paisa from 78.19 a day ago to 78.21.

The U.A.E Dirham closed at 76.59 with a gain of 1.63 paisa from its value of 76.57 a day ago.

During the current financial year, PKR has depreciated against the Dollar by 82.41 Rupees or 28.69%. While the current calendar year has seen PKR depreciate by 60.82 rupees or 21.17%.

In the money market, the State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) conducted an open market operation (OMO) through which it injected Rs.647.1 billion for 4 days at 21.01%.
