PKR recovers another 34 paisa at interbank

August 22, 2019 (MLN): Pakistani rupee (PKR) appreciated by 34 paisa against US Dollar (USD) in today's interbank session, thereby extending its appreciative streak to the fifth day.

During these 5 session, the local currency recovered around 72 paisa as the currency closed the today's trade at PKR 158.23 per USD, against yesterday's closing of PKR 158.58 per USD.

The rupee witnessed a mild activity in intraday trade as it was traded in a range of 79 paisa per USD showing an intraday high bid of 158.45 and an intraday Low offer of 157.60.

PKR appreciated further in the second session and was quoted at 157.50/157.60, while within the Open Market, PKR was traded at 158/159 per USD

Meanwhile, the currency gained 41 paisa against the Pound Sterling as the day's closing quote stood at PKR 192.16 per GBP, while the previous session closed at PKR 192.58 per GBP.

Similarly, PKR's value strengthened by 52 paisa against EUR which closed at PKR 175.45 at the interbank today.

On another note, within the money market, the State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) conducted an Open Market Operation in which it injected Rs.360 billion for 1 day at 13.39 percent.

The overnight repo rate towards close of the session was 13.40/13.55 percent, whereas the 1 week rate was 13.35/13.50 percent.
