PKR posts modest gain against USD

September 28, 2026 (MLN): The Pakistani rupee (PKR) recorded a marginal gain against the US dollar on Monday, appreciating by 0.81 paisa in the interbank market to close at PKR 277.15 per dollar, compared to the previous session’s close of PKR 277.16.

During the session, the rupee traded at an intraday high (bid) of 277.15 and a low (ask) of 277.15.

In the open market, exchange companies quoted the US dollar at PKR 277.25 for buying and PKR 278.20 for selling.

Against other major currencies, the rupee gained 34.17 paisa, or 0.11%, against the euro, which closed at PKR 315.40 versus PKR 315.74 in the previous session.

The local currency, however, weakened by 69.61 paisa, or 0.19%, against the British pound, closing at PKR 367.60 compared to PKR 366.91 a day earlier.

The rupee appreciated by 93.51 paisa, or 0.28%, against the Swiss franc to settle at PKR 333.48.

Against the Japanese yen, the PKR depreciated by 1.60 paisa, or 0.91%, with the currency closing at PKR 1.7684 compared to PKR 1.7524 in the previous session.

The rupee weakened by 0.37 paisa against the Chinese yuan, closing at PKR 41.29.

Against the Saudi riyal, the local currency lost 1.45 paisa to close at PKR 73.83, while it depreciated by 0.40 paisa against the UAE dirham to settle at PKR 75.46.

During the current fiscal year, the PKR has appreciated by Rs1.01, or 0.36%, against the US dollar, while its gain since the start of the current calendar year stands at Rs2.97, or 1.07%.

In the money market, the benchmark six-month Karachi Interbank Bid and Offer rates increased by 4 basis points to 11.77% and 12.02%, respectively.
