PKR extends gains, closes at 277.16 against USD

September 25, 2026 (MLN): The Pakistani rupee (PKR) edged higher against the US dollar on Friday, appreciating by 1.17 paisa in the interbank market to close at PKR 277.16 per dollar, compared with the previous session’s close of PKR 277.17.

During the trading session, the rupee recorded an intraday high and low of 277.15 against the dollar.

In the open market, exchange companies quoted the US dollar at PKR 277.70 for buying and PKR 278.20 for selling.

Against other major currencies, the local currency weakened by 8.37 paisa, or 0.03%, against the euro, which closed at PKR 315.74 versus PKR 315.66 in the previous session.

The rupee strengthened by 14.02 paisa, or 0.04%, against the British pound, settling at PKR 366.91 compared with PKR 367.05 a day earlier.

Against the Swiss franc, the PKR gained 78.26 paisa, or 0.23%, to close at PKR 334.41.

The local currency depreciated by 0.19 paisa, or 0.11%, against the Japanese yen, closing at 1.7524 compared with 1.7505 previously.

Against the Chinese yuan, the rupee appreciated by 0.39 paisa, or 0.01%, to close at PKR 41.29.

The PKR weakened by 0.18 paisa against the Saudi riyal to close at PKR 73.82, while it gained 0.32 paisa against the UAE dirham to settle at PKR 75.46.

On a cumulative basis, the rupee has appreciated by 99.96 paisa, or 0.36%, against the US dollar during the current fiscal year. Since the start of the calendar year, the local currency has gained Rs2.96, or 1.07%, against the dollar.

Meanwhile, in the money market, the benchmark six-month Karachi Interbank Bid and Offer rates remained unchanged at 11.73% and 11.98%, respectively.
