PKR gains 14 paisa per USD

May 12, 2025 (MLN):  The Pakistani rupee (PKR) appreciated by 13.85 paisa or 0.05% against the US dollar during Monday’s interbank session, closing at PKR 281.57 per USD. compared to the previous closing of 281.71.

This marginal gain comes on the back of the IMF’s formal approval of the next loan tranche and the announcement of a ceasefire, both of which have injected stability into the foreign exchange market and boosted investor confidence.

Throughout the day, the currency saw an intraday high (bid) of 281.80 and a low (ask) of 281.55.

In the open market, exchange companies quoted the dollar at 281.50 for buying and 281.60 for selling.

In comparison to major currencies, PKR rose 4.20 rupees or 1.32% against the Euro, closing at 312.86 compared to the previous value of 317.06.

Against the British Pound, PKR gained by 2.59 rupees or 0.69% to 371.08 compared to 373.67 a day ago.

The local unit appreciated 5.99 rupees or 1.77% against Swiss franc to close at 333.35.

Against the Japanese Yen, PKR's value rose 3.72 paisa or 1.92% to close the session at 1.9043 versus 1.9415 a day ago.

Pakistani Rupee deteriorated 15.01 paisa or 0.39% against Chinese Yuan to close at 39.03 from 38.88.

The local currency increased by 3.39 paisa or 0.05% against Saudi Riyal to 75.07. While it rose by 3.98 paisa or 0.05% against the U.A.E Dirham to close at 76.66.

During the current fiscal year, PKR has depreciated against the US Dollar by 3.23 rupees or 1.15%. While it has weakened 3.02 rupees or 1.07% so far this calendar year.

In the Money Market, the benchmark 6 Month Karachi Interbank Bid and Offer rates inched down by 1bps to 11.19% and 11.44%.
