PKR falls 11 paisa per USD

February 27, 2025 (MLN): The Pakistani Rupee (PKR) depreciated by 10.73 paisa or 0.04% against the US dollar in Thursday's interbank session, closing at PKR 279.72 per USD, compared to the previous closing of PKR 279.62.

This marks the rupee’s lowest level against the greenback, reflecting a 0.79% decline from its 52-week high of PKR 277.51, recorded on October 4, 2024.

The trading band remained at 2.20, with no signs of recovery since hitting the low.

The currency has now spent 146 days since its last peak, indicating persistent pressure on the external front.

Throughout the day, the currency saw an intraday high (bid) of 279.70 and a low (ask) of 279.70.

In the open market, exchange companies quoted the dollar at 279.20 for buying and 281.50 for selling.

In comparison to major currencies, PKR strengthened 69.85 paisa or 0.24% against the Euro, closing at 292.93 compared to the previous value of 293.62.

Against the British Pound, PKR fell by 54.14 paisa or 0.15% to 354.44 compared to 353.90 a day ago.

The local unit gained 89.18 paisa or 0.29% against Swiss franc to close at 311.91.

Against the Japanese Yen, PKR's value weakened 0.31 paisa or 0.17% to close the session at 1.8748 versus 1.8717 a day ago.

Pakistani Rupee strengthened 4.73 paisa or 0.12% against Chinese Yuan to close at 38.49 from 38.54.

The local currency fell by 2.07 paisa or 0.03% against Saudi Riyal to 74.58. While it decreased by 3.13 paisa or 0.04% against the U.A.E Dirham to close at 76.16.

During the current fiscal year, PKR has decreased against the US Dollar by 1.38 rupees or 0.49%. While it has fell 1.17 rupees or 0.42% so far this calendar year.

In the Money Market, the benchmark 6 Month Karachi Interbank Bid and Offer rates inched up by 1bps to 11.60% and 11.85%.
