PKR extends gains, USD falls to 276.82

October 23, 2026 (MLN): The Pakistani rupee (PKR) extended its gains against the US dollar on Friday, appreciating by 2.86 paisa in the interbank market to close at PKR 276.82, compared with the previous session's closing rate of PKR 276.85.

During the session, the rupee traded within a range of 276.80 and 276.85 against the dollar, with the intraday low and high recorded on the ask and bid sides, respectively.

In the open market, exchange companies quoted the dollar at PKR 277.25 for buying and PKR 279.75 for selling.

Against other major currencies, the local unit posted gains against most currencies. It strengthened by Rs1.36, or 0.44%, against the euro to close at PKR 309.78, down from PKR 311.14 a day earlier.

The rupee also appreciated by 82.73 paisa, or 0.22%, against the British pound, settling at PKR 370.39 compared with the previous close of PKR 371.22.

Against the Swiss franc, the local currency gained Rs1.10, closing at PKR 336.18.

However, the rupee weakened against the Japanese yen, losing 0.31 paisa, or 0.18%, to settle at PKR 1.7653 from PKR 1.7622 in the previous session. It also depreciated by 0.94 paisa, or 0.02%, against the Chinese yuan to close at PKR 41.50, compared with PKR 41.49 a day earlier.

The local currency strengthened against Gulf currencies, gaining 5.77 paisa, or 0.08%, against the Saudi riyal to close at PKR 73.75. Against the UAE dirham, it appreciated by 0.57 paisa, or 0.01%, to settle at PKR 75.38.

Since the beginning of the current fiscal year, the rupee has gained Rs1.34, or 0.48%, against the US dollar. Its appreciation against the greenback has reached Rs3.30, or 1.19%, so far in the calendar year.

Meanwhile, in the money market, the benchmark six-month Karachi Interbank Bid and Offer rates declined by 2 basis points, with the bid rate settling at 12.16% and the offer rate at 12.41%.
