June 01, 2022 (MLN): Pakistan's yearly inflation rate (New Base 2015-16) in May 2022 surged to 13.8 percent compared to 13.4 percent in April 2022 and 10.9 percent in May 2021, according to the latest data released by Pakistan Bureau of Statistics (PBS) today.

The July-May average inflation is 11.29 percent compared to 8.83 percent from the corresponding period last year.

On a month-on-month basis, it increased by 0.4 percent in May 2022 as compared to a jump of 1.6 percent in the previous month and a marginal increase of 0.1 percent in May 2021.

To note, May's reading came below the market expectations which were between 13.5 percent and 16.5 percent with an average estimate of 14.43 percent.
