Pakistan's strong ties with the US highlighted by Senate Chairman

February 04, 2025 (MLN): Pakistan's relationship with the United States is a cornerstone of its foreign policy, with Chairman Senate Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani emphasizing the nation's long-standing and multifaceted ties with the US.

He expressed Pakistan's desire to deepen and expand this relationship, emphasizing the country's commitment to working closely with the US to promote regional and global peace and stability.

US Embassy's Minister Counsellor for Political Affairs, Zach Harkenrider, met with the Chairman Senate today in Islamabad, where they discussed key issues of bilateral importance.

Chairman Senate also extended congratulations to US President Donald Trump on his election victory, according to the press release.

He expressed Pakistan's eagerness to work closely with the new administration to foster a peaceful and secure future that respects the sovereignty and aspirations of all nations.

Chairman Senate noted that the bilateral relationship between Pakistan and the US is on an upward trajectory, emphasizing the importance of maintaining the current positive momentum.

He expressed a strong desire to collaborate with the US in various areas, including climate change mitigation and adaptation, energy transition, water management, climate-smart agriculture, biodiversity, and waste management.

He highlighted that US investment in these sectors would significantly benefit Pakistan’s economy and contribute to sustainable development.

However, he stressed the need to further increase trade between the two countries and encouraged US companies to explore new investment opportunities in Pakistan.

"We are committed to diversifying our bilateral trade relationship with the US," the Chairman Senate added.

The Chairman Senate also recognized the significance of high-level visits, recalling the productive discussions that took place during his tenure as Prime Minister from 2008 to 2012.

He emphasized the need to accelerate parliamentary and high-level exchanges, while also fostering stronger people-to-people connections.

The Chairman Senate shared that he recently witnessed the signing ceremony in which Punjab and California were declared sister states.

During the meeting, he also expressed deep sorrow over the recent aircraft crashes in the US, acknowledging the tragic loss of lives and extending condolences to the affected families.

Additionally, the Chairman emphasized Pakistan's role in promoting regional peace, highlighting the country's efforts to facilitate stability in Afghanistan and support ongoing dialogue for peace and security in South Asia.

Highlighting the significance of regional peace, Chairman Senate Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani emphasized that peace in the region would have a profound and lasting impact on global stability.

He stated that Pakistan is focused on peaceful development, striving to avoid conflict and bloc politics, with a clear emphasis on geo-economics rather than geopolitics.

Gilani further expressed Pakistan's commitment to fostering better and more constructive relations with all regional countries, despite the bilateral challenges facing the region.

He also commended the role of the Pakistani diaspora, recognizing its crucial contribution to strengthening ties between the two countries, with people-to-people connections playing a vital role in this relationship.
