CPI Preview: Inflation to fall to around 17% YoY in April

Pakistan’s shipments to USA surged by 19% YoY during Jul-Apr FY21

May 28, 2021 (MLN): USA remained as the top export destination for Pakistan with $4billion worth of shipments in Jul-Apr FY21, against the exports of $3.37bn in the same period of last year, showing an increase of 19% YoY.

According to the Country-wise trade data released by SBP, UK appeared as the second major destination country during the period under review wherein Pakistan exported goods worth $1.69bn against the exports of $1.38bn from July to Apr FY20, marking a growth of 22% YoY.

This was followed by China, wherein the total exports to the country during the said period swelled by 16% YoY to $1.64bn from the exports of $1.4bn recorded in the corresponding period a year ago.

Next in line is Germany and UAE, Pakistani exports to them pegged at $1.245bn and $1.2bn during 10MFY21, respectively. Exports to Germany depicted a jump of 12% YoY, while exports to UAE dipped by 12% YoY.

Among other countries, Pakistani exports to the Netherlands (Holland) during 10MFY21 stood at $922.8 million, up by 9% YoY, followed by Afghanistan and Spain with $828.7mn and $668.8mn respectively, the data revealed.

Meanwhile, in the month of April’21 alone, Pakistan exported $456mn worth of goods and services to the USA which was 73% higher compared to April’20 figures while 6% lesser compared to the previous month’s exports.

This was followed by China and UK with shipments worth $235mn (up 109% YoY, down 2% MoM) and $183.97mn (up 74% YoY, down 7% MoM) respectively.
