June 21, 2023 (MLN): IT players are increasingly holding a larger share of their earnings abroad, a trend driven by waning business confidence and exchange rate volatility, Topline Securities in the latest report highlighted.
Pakistan’s Information Technology (IT) exports for the month of May 2023 increased by 23.56% MoM, reaching a total of $236.03 million as compared to $191.03m in the previous month.
Sector-wise, Telecommunications services experienced a significant increase of 92.34% MoM, with the value rising to $55.49m in May 2023 from $28.85m in April 2023.
In the Telecommunications services sector, call centers showed a growth of 76.15% MoM, reaching $32.08m compared to $18.21m in the previous month.
The second sector, computer services increased by 11.39% MoM, reaching $180.28m compared to $161.84m in the last month.
Within this sector, hardware consultancy services declined by 34.76% MoM, while software consultancy services, maintenance & repairs of computers, export/Import of computer software, and other Computer services rose by 8.08%, 22.45%, 14.12%, and 13.35% MoM respectively.
On the other hand, the information services sector marked a decrease of 23.53% MoM, with news agency services experiencing a significant decline of 35.78% MoM, and other information services declining slightly by 1.64%, MoM.
