Pakistan, Iran to boost cooperation in trade, investment

May 27, 2025 (MLN): Pakistan and Iran have agreed to enhance bilateral cooperation in diverse fields including trade, investment, and commerce, as Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif paid a courtesy call on His Eminence Sayyed Ali Khamenei, the Supreme Leader of Iran.
During the meeting, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif expressed his deep respect for the Supreme Leader, describing him as an iconic figure in the Muslim world, and said the Muslim Ummah looked up to him for guidance and patronage.
He briefed the Supreme Leader on the recent conflict with India, highlighting India's hegemonistic and revisionist designs, and thanked the Iranian leadership for its support against Indian aggression.
The Prime Minister reiterated that Pakistan seeks peace in the region, as it is essential for economic development and prosperity.
Sharif informed His Eminence about the steps being taken to elevate Pakistan-Iran relations to their highest potential and assured that his government was determined to strengthen strategic cooperation with Iran amid current geo-political complexities.
The Prime Minister commended the Iranian leadership's farsightedness in engaging with the United States over the nuclear issue and expressed hope for a constructive agreement that could contribute to regional peace and stability.
The Supreme Leader, in response, acknowledged the Prime Minister's efforts for promoting peace and his personal dedication to enhancing Pakistan-Iran ties.
He offered prayers for Pakistan’s progress, growth, and prosperity, according to the press release issued.
The Prime Minister was accompanied by Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir, Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Senator Mohammad Ishaq Dar, Federal Interior Minister Syed Mohsin Raza Naqvi, and Federal Information Minister Attaullah Tarar.
Prime Minister Shehbaz also extended his appreciation for the Supreme Leader’s admiration of Allama Iqbal's poetry, and formally invited him to visit Pakistan again at his earliest convenience.
