Pakistan commits to Trans Afghan Railway Project: PM

February 26, 2025 (MLN): Pakistan has reaffirmed its commitment to the Trans Afghan railway project, emphasizing its potential to transform regional trade, stated Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif.

Addressing the Pakistan-Uzbekistan Business Forum in Tashkent, he highlighted that both countries will take joint steps to achieve and materialize this game-changing project.

The Prime Minister underscored the significance of Karachi and Gwadar ports as hubs for economic activities, imports, and exports.

He pointed out that the National Logistics Cell (NLC) is already transporting goods to Central Asian countries via Afghanistan.

He further announced that both nations have agreed in principle for NLC to collaborate with its Uzbek counterpart to establish a joint company for goods and services transportation, as per the press release issued today.

Highlighting the vast scope of cooperation between the two countries, the Prime Minister noted Uzbekistan’s keen interest in Pakistan’s mining and mineral sector.

He emphasized that Uzbekistan’s expertise through joint ventures will significantly support the sector’s growth.

He also mentioned potential collaborations in Information Technology, agriculture, textile, tourism, and other areas.

The Prime Minister expressed confidence that this business forum will play a crucial role in realizing shared goals and aspirations.

Uzbekistan's President, Shavkat Mirziyoyev, remarked that Pakistan and Uzbekistan are not competitors but complement each other’s economies.

He emphasized the numerous opportunities for partnerships and cooperation in various sectors.

The Uzbek President assured full support and facilitation for Pakistani businessmen interested in investing in Uzbekistan.

He highlighted that both countries can benefit from each other’s experience and expertise in multiple industries, including mining, energy, pharmaceuticals, and textiles.

He affirmed that this bilateral relationship will be elevated to a new level.
