Pak-UK to strengthen economic ties, boost collaboration in key areas

February 13, 2025 (MLN): The United Kingdom aims to further strengthen bilateral economic ties with Pakistan, emphasizing its strong partnership and the importance of continued collaboration in key areas such as public financial management, revenue mobilization, and economic resilience.

This was stated by Jane Marriott CMG OBE, the British High Commissioner to Pakistan, during a meeting with the Minister for Finance and Revenue, Senator Muhammad Aurangzeb, at the Finance Division.

During the meeting, she reaffirmed the UK-Pakistan strategic partnership and emphasized the importance of continued collaboration in key areas such as public financial management, revenue mobilization, and economic resilience.

Both sides discussed mutual interests, including ongoing economic reforms, financial cooperation, and initiatives under the UK’s development support programs in Pakistan, according to the press release issued.

The Finance Minister provided an overview of Pakistan’s economic landscape, highlighting the government's commitment to macroeconomic stability, fiscal discipline, and export-led growth.

He also acknowledged the UK’s continued support through various development and governance programs, which play a crucial role in Pakistan’s economic development.

Additionally, the British High Commissioner shared insights on the progress of the REMIT Program, which focuses on enhancing revenue mobilization and promoting institutional transparency in Pakistan.

The Finance Minister appreciated the program’s contributions and stressed the need for sustained technical assistance and capacity-building initiatives.

Both sides agreed to deepen economic cooperation and explore new avenues for trade, investment, and financial collaboration.
