PAC decides to halt free electric supply to companies’ staff

June 23, 2022 (MLN): Amidst the ongoing energy crisis, the Public Accounts Committee (PAC) in a meeting on Thursday decided to halt the free supply of electricity to the staff of distribution companies.

“Companies should stop supplying free electricity,” Chairman PAC said.

All power-producing companies would adjust units charged in the salary of the staff, he added.

The staff of electricity distribution companies has been enjoying thousands of free electricity units as per their grades/designations for a long time.

This move will share the burden for general consumers who have to pay the higher amount in terms of electricity bills after a notable surge in electricity prices.

During the meeting, the Secretary Ministry of Energy raised the concern that if free supply stopped staff will become jittery.

Upon which, member PAC said, “Do not be hostage and get blackmail from the Union.”
