November passenger car sales rise by 39% MoM

December 13, 2022 (MLN): Sales of passenger cars increased by 39% MoM to 15,444 units in November 2022 compared to 11,129 units in October 2022, the latest data released by the Pakistan Automobile Manufacturers Association (PAMA) showed on Monday.

However on yeraly basis, the passengers cars remained relatively flat as compared to 15,351 units sold in the same period last year.

This increase in sales is attributed to improved inventory management by Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs), primarily the availability of CKD parts.

On the other hand, in 5MFY23, car sales decreased by 39% to 55,144 units as compared to 90,303 in the same period last year.

In November 2022, the 'below 1000 cc' category took a lead as auto sales were recorded at 7,759 units, 74% MoM higher within this category, Suzuki Bolan registered sales of 504 units, and Suzuki Alto sold 7,255 units in the said month.

The second-highest number of sales was made within the '1300 cc and above' category, clocking in at 5,831 units, up by 22% MoM. Segment-wise, Honda Cars (Civic and City) registered sales of 1,509 units, followed by Suzuki Swift with 2,246 units. Toyota Corolla and Yaris recorded sales at 1,933 units.

The ‘1000cc' category took the third spot as the units sold in November 2022 were 1,854 units. In terms of growth, the volumetric sales inched down by just 2% MoM. Within this category, Suzuki Cultus recorded the highest sales at 1,136 units, followed by Suzuki WagonR which sold 718 units.

Sales of tractors and three-wheelers & bikes decreased by 34% MoM, and 3.23% MoM to 1,240 units, and 92,860 units, respectively.

Company-wise, sales of Indus, and Hyundai Nishat declined by 4% MoM, and 9% MoM to 3,242, and 441 units respectively.

Meanwhile, those of Pak Suzuki Motors Company (PSMC) and Honda Atlas Cars (HCAR) increased by 55% MoM and 38% MoM to 12,400, and 1,973 units.
