No plans to impose new taxes, govt on track to meet tax targets

October 05, 2023 (MLN): Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) chairman has confirmed that there are no plans to impose new taxes in Pakistan, according to sources familiar with the matter.

The statement came as there had been increasing rumors circulating around the media on additional taxes.

The government is already on target to achieve its fiscal year 2024 tax collection targets.

Ministry sources clarified that the taxation of agriculture remains a provincial matter, allowing each province to set its own policies in this regard.

Moreover, there are no plans to impose any new taxes on the retail sector.

The government's focus remains on curbing smuggling and all necessary steps are being taken to combat illegal trade activities that can undermine government revenue collection.
