January 03, 2024 (MLN): Telecom sector disputes and cases will now be handled by a specialized tribunal instead of high courts, which will help resolve legal issues much faster and contribute to the rapid advancement of this sector, Caretaker Federal Minister of IT & Telecom, Dr. Umar Saif, said in a post on X.

As per the statement of objects and reasons shared by the minister, a new Telecommunication Appellate Tribunal will entertain appeals arising out of the decisions passed by the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority.

This is in the exercise of its powers under the Pakistan Telecommunication (Re-organization) Act, 1996 and Prevention of Electronic Crimes Act, 2016.

The establishment of this Tribunal will help to lessen the burden of the High Courts with regard to adjudication of technical matters, it said.
