June 02, 2022 (MLN): National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA) on Thursday increased the power tariff by Rs7.9078/kWh to Rs24.82/kWh for FY23, said a press release issued today.

The notable jump in power tariff is attributed to the increase in fuel prices, capacity costs and the impact of PKR devaluation.

Earlier, the regulatory body determined a tariff of Rs16.91/kWh for FY23.

Meanwhile, the energy purchase price is projected at Rs1.15 trillion. Capacity charges including NTDC and HVDC cost is projected as Rs1.36tr. The total Revenue requirement of XWDISCOs including DISCOs margin and Prior Year Adjustment (PYA) is projected as Rs2.8tr with projected sales of 113,001 GWh.

Owing to the different revenue requirements, NEPRA determined different consumer-end for each distribution company (XWDISCO).

The determined tariffs have been intimated to the federal government. The federal government as per NEPRA Act is required to file an application for the determination of a uniform tariff for all the DISCOs.

The uniform tariff so determined by NEPRA after incorporating the amount of subsidy/ surcharges, intimated by the government, is forwarded for notification. The tariff once notified is then charged to the consumers, as per reported by APP.

MEPCO, GEPCO, HESCO, SEPCO, QESCO, PESCO & TESCO filed Multi-year tariff petitions for FY21 to FY25.

IESCO, LESCO & FESCO also filed annual adjustment/indexation requests under the already allowed multi-year tariff.

MEPCO, GEPCO, HESCO, SEPCO, QESCO, PESCO & TESCO have been allowed an investment of around Rs406bn for their distribution investment program for the 5 year period, it noted.

XWDISCOs allowed T&D losses have been reduced from 13.46% to 11.70% for the FY23.
