NA restores election bill, annulling PTI’s reforms on EVMs

May 26, 2022 (MLN): The National Assembly on Thursday passed the Elections (Amendment) Bill, 2022, mainly seeking the removal of the use of Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) in general elections on the concerns over misuse of technology.

Accordingly, the overseas Pakistanis will remain unable to cast their votes in the upcoming elections.

Minister for Parliamentary Affairs Javed Murtaza Abbasi had presented the bill further to amend the Elections Act, 2017 (The Elections (Amendment) Bill, 2022), while MNA Mohsin Shahnawaz Ranjha read out his proposed amendments.

According to the reports, the officials will send the bill to the Senate tomorrow.
