In the company-wise landscape, Toyota retained its market
leadership, with sales of Corolla, Yaris, and Corolla Cross reaching 2,685
units in May 2026 compared to 3,814 units in the same month last year.
While volumes moderated on a high base, Toyota continued to
dominate the higher engine-capacity segment, supported by its strong sedan and
crossover portfolio.
Honda also maintained a strong presence, with Civic
and City sales rising to 1,952 units from 1,870 units in May 2025. The increase
highlights continued demand for Honda’s sedan lineup as consumers favored
established brands amid improving market conditions.
On the other hand, Suzuki continued to dominate the
small-car segment, led by Alto, Cultus, WagonR, and Swift.
The Alto remained the largest contributor within the
below-1000cc category, with sales climbing to 5,964 units from 3,409 units a
year earlier, while Cultus recorded 255 units and WagonR posted 429 units.
Swift sales stood at 209 units, reflecting relatively stable demand across the
company’s product range.
Meanwhile, Hyundai maintained a steady foothold in the
market. Elantra sales increased to 1,656 units from 792 units in May 2025,
emerging as one of the strongest performers in the sedan category.
Sonata, however, remained a niche offering with sales of 31
units during the month.
In the emerging SUV and crossover space, Sazgar
Engineering Works continued to gain traction through its HAVAL lineup, with
sales reaching 1,249 units in May 2026 compared to 915 units in the same month
last year. The performance reflects a continuing shift in consumer preference
toward SUVs and premium crossover vehicles.
The jeeps, pickups, and SUVs segment recorded total
sales of 4,449 units during May 2026, up from 3,692 units a year earlier.
Within the category, Toyota’s Fortuner and IMVs remained key players in the
premium SUV space, while Honda’s BR-V and HR-V posted sales of 287 units.
Hyundai Tucson recorded 339 units, and HAVAL further
strengthened its position, highlighting growing consumer inclination toward
crossover SUVs despite elevated vehicle prices.
The commercial vehicle segment also showed healthy
economic activity. Trucks and buses recorded total sales of 2,616 units in May
2026 compared with 1,569 units in the corresponding month last year, indicating
stronger logistics demand, transportation activity, and industrial movement.
Similarly, the agriculture-linked segment remained robust,
with tractor sales reaching 15,853 units in May 2026 against 13,525 units in
May 2025.
The increase underscores resilient rural demand, improved
farm economics, and continued support from the agricultural sector.
