Worker remittances rise to $4.25bn in May 2026

June 10, 2026 (MLN): Pakistan received workers' remittances of $4.25bn in May 2026, up 20.2% from $3.54bn in April 2026, and up 15.4% on a yearly basis from $3.69bn in May 2025, according to the latest data released by the State Bank of Pakistan (SBP).

The May 2026 figure marks the highest monthly remittance inflow recorded in recent years, reflecting the sustained momentum in overseas Pakistani workers' earnings despite global economic headwinds.


On a cumulative basis, in 11MFY26, total remittances came in at $38.1bn as it continued the upward trajectory seen throughout the fiscal year.


Saudi Arabia retained the top position as the largest contributor to workers' remittances in May 2026, with inflows totalling $1.03bn, up 21.8% from $841.6m in April 2026, and up 12.2% from $913.95m in May 2025.

The UAE remained in second place, with inflows of $1.01bn, up 37% month-on-month from $734.74m in April 2026, and up 33.3% from $754.17m in May 2025. Within the UAE, Dubai contributed $828.13m, Abu Dhabi $158.21m, Sharjah $10.74m, and other emirates $9.51m.

The United Kingdom (UK) held on to third place, contributing $645.49m, up from April's $563.58m, and up 9.8% from $588.07m in May 2025.

Remittances from the United States (USA) stood at $349.83m, up from $317.27m in the previous month, and up 11.3% from $314.31m in May 2025.

Workers' remittances from European Union (EU) countries reached $465.8m, up from April's $432.15m, and up 10.3% from $422.12m in May 2025. Among EU member states, Italy led with $135.54m, followed by Spain $83m, Germany $71.44m, Greece $50.54m, France $49.19m, Ireland $25.79m, Belgium $18.36m, Sweden $11.79m, Netherlands $10.38m, and Denmark $9.78m.

Other GCC countries (excluding Saudi Arabia and UAE) contributed $392.7m, higher than the previous month and up 8.6% from $361.68m in May 2025. Key contributors included Qatar $118.62m, Oman $133.23m, Kuwait $83.74m, and Bahrain $57.11m.

Among other notable countries, Australia sent $106.7m, Canada $79.62m, South Africa $32.4m, Japan $7.58m, South Korea $9.77m, Norway $14.98m, Malaysia $18m, Switzerland $3.82m, and other countries contributed $93.12m.
