IMF to hold meetings on February 11 to assess governance in Pakistan

February 10, 2025 (MLN): The International Monetary Fund (IMF) is set to hold meetings on February 11 to analyze critical governance and corruption vulnerabilities in Pakistan and identify priority structural reforms for the future.

A three-member IMF mission arrived in Pakistan on February 9 to conduct a Governance and Corruption Diagnostic Assessment (GCDA) under the Extended Fund Facility (EFF) 2024 program.

This assessment, a structural benchmark under the IMF program, aims to analyze governance and corruption vulnerabilities across key state functions, including fiscal governance, central bank operations, financial sector oversight, market regulation, the rule of law, and anti-money laundering (AML-CFT).

The mission will primarily engage with organizations such as the Finance Division, the Federal Board of Revenue, the State Bank of Pakistan, the Auditor General of Pakistan, the Securities & Exchange Commission of Pakistan, the Election Commission of Pakistan, and the Ministry of Law & Justice.

The GCDA report will recommend actions to address corruption vulnerabilities and strengthen integrity and governance.

These recommendations will assist the government in implementing reforms to promote transparency, enhance institutional capacities, and achieve inclusive and sustainable economic growth.
