Govt releases Rs22.86bn for water resources

January 03, 2023 (MLN): The government has released Rs22.86 billion in account of Public Sector Development Programme (PSDP) to restore water resources, the latest data from the Planning Commission showed.

The government has stated a sum of Rs97.56bn for various projects in PSDP 2022-23. The local component hoisted at Rs17.85bn while the foreign aid component was Rs4.58bn.

Funds for ongoing projects include Hydel Projects Rs55.38bn for Dasu Hydropower Project (2,160 MW), Rs12.08bn Neelum Jhelum Hydropower Project (696 MW), and Rs12bn for Tarbela fifth extension Hydropower Project (1,410 MW).

Ongoing projects in the water sector include Rs20bn allocated for Diamer Basha Dam Project and K-4 Greater Water Supply Scheme (260 MGD) each. 

However, Rs12.06bn was allocated for Mohmand Multipurpose Dam Project, Rs7bn for Diamer Basha Dam Project (Land Acquisition and Re-settlement), and Rs5bn each for Nai Gaj Dam Project DADU (Sindh) and Kaachi Canal Project (Phase-I) Dera Bugti, Naseerabad, Bolan, and Jhal Magsi.

The major allocation for new schemes includes Rs500mn for the Chashma Right Bank Canal Left Cum Gravity Project.

Funds for the construction of major dams include Rs300mn each for the construction of five small Dams Salari-2 Dam, Rai Jo Da Dam, Shalmani Dam, Garwari Dam, and Amari Dam in Kohistan Dadu.

Funds for the construction of smalls were allocated including six small dams namely Densi, Kcodal, Kambowah, and Khiropora.
