October 9, 2021 (MLN): The first leg of ongoing technical level talks between the government and the International Monetary Fund (IMF) for the resumption of the $6 billion Extended Fund Facility (EFF) has concluded on a positive note, said the Spokesperson to the Finance Minister Muzzammil Aslam when contacted by MG News.

The virtual meetings concluded on Friday, wherein the two sides discussed the path forward to carry out the fund’s reform plan.

The next round of talks is expected to be held in Washington DC on the sidelines of the IMF’s Annual Meetings where the two sides will negotiate on the release of $1bn tranche and hold a comprehensive review of the health of Pakistan’s economy under the Article IV consultations.

The next round of meetings among the government and IMF officials will be held face-to-face in Washington.

As per reports, the successful conclusion of the talks would ensure the release of $1bn from the IMF and $1.6bn by the Asian Development Bank and the World Bank over the ongoing fiscal year.
