February 21, 2023 (MLN): Foreign direct investment (FDI) in Pakistan stood at $222.6 million in January 2023, registering a whopping growth of over 2x YoY compared to $109mn in January 2022, latest data issued by State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) showed.
Within the direct investments, there was an inflow of $244.3mn and an outflow of $21.6mn during the month.
The foreign private investment into the country amounted to $221.5mn, which jumped by 2x YoY compared to $109.6mn in January 2022.
Under the foreign public investment, all the investment was concentrated into portfolio investment worth $8.7mn against the inflow of $1bn in January 2022.
Accordingly, the total foreign investment in the review month clocked in at $230mn, down by 80.25% YoY compared to the same period last year.
However, within 7MFY23, FDI plunged by 44.2% YoY to $683.5mn as compared to FDI of $1.22 billion reported in the corresponding period last year.
Meanwhile, in the total foreign investment in 7MFY23, the country witnessed an outflow of $341.4mn, compared to an inflow of $1.87bn in 7MFY22.
