December 23, 2023 (MLN): A particular news item aired by a private news channel regarding any delay in the release of funds for development projects and salaries of Federal Government employees is baseless and false, said the spokesperson of the Finance Division.

“It would have been appropriate for the news channel to contact the spokesperson of the Finance Division before broadcasting the news, but unfortunately this was not done,” the spokesperson said.

Pakistan remains on track to meet all IMF program commitments, as evidenced by the smooth and successful completion of the Staff Level Agreement (SLA) of the first review.

In response to the media report, he provided details regarding the availability of funds as follows:

The Finance Division has already released quarter 2 funds both for current (salary pension and non-ERE) and development expenditures.

Further, the Planning, Development, and Special Initiatives Division has accordingly authorized funds for development expenditure to the ministries.

“The Finance Division and Planning Division have not changed the release strategy as wrongly reported by a private TV channel,” the spokesperson added.

He also highlighted that the Finance Division has released all the funds for the second quarter of the Benazir Income Support Program and are being transferred to the beneficiaries.

Likewise, all the funds to subsidize the power sector have been made available by the Finance Division as per the requirement of CDMP.

According to the Finance Division, the release of salaries to the Christian community before Christmas as usual was ensured by the Finance Division.

Revenue collection by FBR and NTR collection by other ministries is fully on track, as highlighted by the spokesperson.

"These facts clearly prove that the above news was broadcast without any evidence and without taking the government's point of view" the spokesperson concluded.
