FBR denies rumors of extension for tax filing

September 30, 2024 (MLN): The Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) has refuted all media reports claiming an extension of the deadline for filing income tax returns for the tax year 2024.

This clarification was made by the revenue board through a recent social media post.

FBR affirmed that no extension will be granted, and the last day to file income tax returns is today, September 30, 2024.

This was already stated by FBR spokesperson Bakhtiar Muhammad, who said while speaking to a private news channel on Saturday that no extension would be provided.

Last year, the deadline was pushed to October 31, but this time, the FBR is taking a stricter approach in light of the government's efforts to expand the tax net and tackle economic challenges.

Although the law allows individuals to request extensions through their respective tax commissioners for specific reasons, the overall deadline will not be extended beyond September 30, he added.
