Digital technology boosts financial access for 3.2m women in Pakistan

November 08, 2023 (MLN): The Asaan Mobile Account (AMA) initiative has led to the opening of 8.5 million new bank accounts, including 3.2m for women, & BISP, which provides financial assistance to 8m families using digital payments, Dr. Shamshad Akhtar, Caretaker Federal Minister for Finance, Revenue, & Economic Affairs, highlighted on Tuesday.

Dr. Shamshad Akhtar was addressing the Pakistan Spotlight Day at the WEF – Edison Alliance event on the said day.

She congratulated the Alliance on the success achieved on the 1 Billion Lives Challenge, with a focus on accelerating digital inclusion for the 1.4bn unbanked population in developing countries.

She further underscored the need to make digital technology more cost-effective & affordable for developing countries.

The finance minister stressed the need to replicate the successful Alliance initiatives in healthcare, education, & finance across developing economies.
