China’s trade surplus shrinks in August as exports fall

Fitch revises China's outlook to negative amid economic uncertainty

September 08, 2023 (MLN): China’s trade surplus narrowed to $68.36n in August 2023 as compared to a surplus of $78.65bn recorded in the same month of last year, the latest data issued by the General Administration of Customs showed yesterday.

Exports dropped 8.8% YoY to $284.87 billion in August 2023, in addition to a 14.5% YoY fall in the previous month

This marks the fourth consecutive month of declining exports.

Meanwhile, imports fell by 7.3% YoY to $216.51bn, as compared to the fall of 12.4% in the previous month.
