Cement dispatches fall by 17% YoY in April

May 04, 2023 (MLN): Cement dispatches witnessed a marginal decline of 17% YoY to 2.95 million tons in April 2023 compared to the same month last year, it also marked a 22% MoM decline, data released by All Pakistan Cement Manufacturers Association (APCMA) showed today.

This took the total cement dispatches during 10MFY23 to clock in at 36.55m tons against 44.31m tons in 10MFY22, posting a decline of 18% YoY, this was mainly attributed to ongoing uncertainty and economic instability in the country.

Going by the data, the local cement dispatches by the industry during the month of April 2023 were 2.53m tons compared to 3.38m tons in April 2022, showing a decline of 25%. On a monthly basis, local cement dispatches also fell by 25% MoM.

On the other hand, export dispatches witnessed a massive surge, jumping 169% YoY from 0.16m tons in April 2022 to 0.42m tons in April 2023. On a monthly basis, export dispatches slid down 4% MoM.

During 10MFY23, local dispatches reached 33.1m tons compared to 39.51m tons in 10MFY22, depicting a decline of 16% YoY. While export dispatches during the period clocked in at 3.46m tons, down by 28% YoY from 4.8m tons.

Region-wise, during April 2023, North-based cement mills dispatched 2.19m tons of cement in domestic markets showing a decrease of 24% YoY against 2.87m tons dispatched in April 2022.

On the other hand, South-based mills dispatched 0.76m tons of cement in local markets during April 2023 which was 13% higher compared to the dispatches of 0.67m tons during April 2022.

Data further revealed that North-based Mills dispatched 27.16m tons of cement domestically during 10MFY23, showing a reduction of 17% from the cement dispatches of 32.74m tons during 10MFY22.

Exports from the North went up by 16% to 0.86m tons in 10MFY23 compared with 0.74m tons exported during the same period previous fiscal year.

Meanwhile, domestic dispatches by South-based Mills during 10MFY23 were 5.94m tons showing a decrease of 12% against 6.76m tons of cement dispatched in 10MFY22.

There was also a substantial decline of around 36% witnessed in exports from the south zone as the volumes reduced to 2.59m tons in 10MFY23 from 4.06m tons in 10MFY22.
