December 21, 2023 (MLN): Pakistan's revised trade deficit for the month of November clocked in at $1.966 billion compared to a deficit of $2.174bn from the previous month, improving by 10% MoM, according to the revised data released by the Pakistan Bureau of Statistics (PBS).

Meanwhile, compared to November 2022's deficit of $2.77bn, the trade deficit reduced by 29% YoY.

Exports fell by 4.35% MoM to $2.573bn compared to $2.69bn in October 2023.

Imports in December 2023 also reduced by 6.68% MoM, clocking in at $4.539bn compared to $4.864bn in October 2023.

According to the provisional figures compiled by the PBS, in Pakistani Rupees terms, exports from Pakistan during November 2023 amounted to Rs734.541bn (provisional) as against Rs754.07bn in October 2023.

Main commodities of exports during November 2023 were Knitwear (Rs100.765bn), Rice Others (Rs99.24bn), Readymade garments (Rs81.96bn), Bed wear (Rs58.7bn), Cotton Cloth (Rs39.274bn), Cotton Yarn (Rs24.47bn), Towels (Rs21.287bn), Rice basmati (Rs17.429bn), Madeup articles (excl. towels & bedwear) (Rs16.656bn) and Oil seeds, nuts & kernels (Rs12.414bn).

Meanwhile, imports in PKR terms into Pakistan during November 2023 amounted to Rs1.30tr (provisional) as against Rs1.364tr in October 2023.

Main commodities of imports during November 2023 were Petroleum crude (Rs161.486bn), Petroleum products (Rs142.589bn), Natural gas, liquified (Rs82.715bn), Palm oil (Rs60.225bn), Iron & steel (Rs58.02bn), Plastic Materials (Rs49,61bn), Electric machinery & apparatus (Rs45.692bn), Mobile phones (Rs41.843bn), Wheat unmilled (Rs40.51bn) and Iron and steel scrap (Rs32.5bn).
