Banking sector spread increases slightly by 2 bps in Aug’21

September 20, 2021 (MLN): The Banking sector spread for August 2021 increased slightly by 2 basis points (bps) over the month which brings its latest value to 4.26% as compared to the prior month's spread of 4.24%. In contrast, the spread has reduced by 61 bps as compared to the same period last year.

Consistent with the State Bank of Pakistan's monthly data released on Weighted Average Lending & Deposit Rates, the lending rate for all banks (inclusive of zero mark-ups) jumped by 2 bps as it stood at 7.84%. Meanwhile, the deposit rate remained stable over the month at 3.58%.
