Auto Sales Jump Up by 16.7 % during FY18

According to data from Pakistan Automotive Manufacturers Association, Car Sales for the fiscal year 2017-18 clocked in at 216,786 units, a 16.7% increase over the 185,781 units sold in the previous fiscal year.

Total passenger car sales for the month of June 2018 were reported at 15,652 units compared to 18,223 units the month before, a month on month decline of about 14%. However, compared to the same month last year, car sales have increased by about 21.6% against sales of 12,870 units in June 2017.

Cars under the ‘1300 CC and Above’ category which include Honda cars, Suzuki Swift, and Toyota Corolla were the most sold with total sales of 99,138 units in the fiscal year 2017-18 and 6,839 units in the month of June compared to 93,925 and 5,491 units in the corresponding periods of the previous fiscal.

Cars under the ‘800 CC and Below 1000 CC’ category which include Suzuki Mehran and Suzuki Bolan were the second highest selling during the fiscal year 2017-18, with total sales of 67,959 units during the entire fiscal and 4,771 units in June 2018 compared to 57,178 and 3,946 units during the corresponding periods of the previous fiscal.

1000 CC cars that include Suzuki Cultus, Suzuki WagonR, and Hyundai Santro were the least selling as they recorded sales of 49,689 units in the fiscal year 2017-18 and 4,042 units in June 2018 against 34,678 units and 3,433 units in the corresponding period of the previous fiscal.

Total Car Production for the fiscal year 2017-18 clocked in at 217,774 units, a 14.2% increase over the 186,936 units produced in the previous fiscal year.

Total passenger cars produced for the month of June 2018 were reported at 15,348 units compared to 17,034 units the month before, a month on month decline of about 9.9%. However, compared to the same month last year, car production has increased by about 43.6% against production of 10,684 units in June 2017.

Total truck sales for the fiscal year 2017-18 were recorded at 9,202 units compared to 7,499 during the previous fiscal year, an increase of about 22.7%. Sales for the month of June 2018 were recorded at 695 units compared to 804 units the month before, a month on month decline of about 13.5%. However, compared to the same month last year, truck sales have increased by 7.7% against sales of 645 units in June 2017.

Trucks produced during the fiscal year 2017-18 were recorded at 9,187 units compared to 7,712 during the previous fiscal year, an increase of about 19.1%. Production for the month of June 2018 was recorded at 643 units compared to 808 units the month before, a month on month decline of about 20.4%. However, compared to the same month last year, truck production has increased by 5.7% against production of 608 units in June 2017.

Total bus sales for the fiscal year 2017-18 were recorded at 744 units compared to 1,130 units sold in the previous fiscal, an alarming decrease of about 34%. Sales for the month of June 2018 were recorded at 57 units compared to 102 units the month before, a month on month decline of about 44%. Compared to the same month last year, bus sales have declined by about 26% against sales of 77 units in June 2017.

Production of buses during the fiscal year 2017-18 was recorded at 784 units compared to 1,118 units sold in the previous fiscal, a significant decrease of about 29.9%. Production for the month of June 2018 was recorded at 70 units compared to 66 units the month before, a month on month increase of about 6%. Compared to the same month last year, buses produced have declined by about 6.6% against production of 75 units in the corresponding month of last year.

Motorcycle sales for the fiscal year 2017-18 were recorded at 1.92 million units compared to 1.63 million units during the previous fiscal. Sales for the month of June were recorded at 156,497 units compared to 169,298 units the month before, leading to a 7.5% month on month decline. However, compared to the same month last year, motorcycle sales have increased by about 21% against sales of 129,342 units in June 2017.

Motorcycle production for the fiscal year 2017-18 was recorded at 1.92 million units compared to 1.63 million units during the previous fiscal. Production for the month of June 2018 was recorded at 153,329 units compared to 169,005 units the month before, leading to a 9.3% month on month decline. However, compared to the same month last year, motorcycle production had increased by about 19.3% against production of 128,520 units in June 2017.
