December 30, 2022 (MLN): Inflationary pressure along with the government's abrupt policies has certainly hit the purchasing power of the low-income class of the population. Now Used/Landa clothes are out of reach of the public that was once preferred as a closet of heaven for the poor as these clothes are also under the radar of government taxes.

According to the media reports, the government has now imposed a tax of one dollar on Landa items, due to which the citizens will face severe problems, especially in this cold season.

Speaking to MG Link News, the traders of Landa Bazaar said that due to the tax imposed, the overall buying power of customers has declined which has affected the overall sales of Lunda goods.

Expressing his concerns, another local dealer stated that despite the tax being levied on the goods they receive poor quality goods through shipment that has made the sales of consignment difficult at given prices.

Earlier on December 23, it was reported that the government raised the tax on imported goods from Rs81 to Rs225 per kilo, forcing the sellers to raise prices of cheap clothes, blankets and other warm clothes.

Addressing a press conference in Karachi lately, Muhammad Usman, Secretary General of Pakistan Second Hand Clothing Merchant Association demanded the government to withdraw the newly imposed taxes. Otherwise, they will have to shut their businesses down.
