Wafi explores strategic expansion into oil marketing sector

August 22, 2025 (MLN): Wafi Energy Pakistan Limited (PSX: WAFI), formerly known as Shell Pakistan Limited, has signalled a potential strategic shift as its Board of Directors has authorized management to explore investment and acquisition opportunities within the oil marketing sector.

In a formal disclosure to the Pakistan Stock Exchange (PSX), the company stated that the decision was made during a board meeting held on August 21 at its headquarters in Karachi.

“Any further material developments in this respect shall accordingly be notified as per applicable laws,” the company assured in its statement.

Wafi Energy’s exploration of new opportunities could be driven by evolving market dynamics, including deregulation trends, infrastructure needs, and shifting consumer demand.

The oil marketing sector, long dominated by a few key players, may be poised for increased competition and innovation.

To note, the company also reported a profit after tax of Rs1.28 billion for the half year ended June 30, 2025, compared to Rs1.32bn in the same period last year.
