September 03, 2025 (MLN): Pakistan's cotton sector demonstrated significant recovery as the latest data from the Pakistan Cotton Ginners' Association (PCGA) revealed a substantial 8.95% increase in cotton arrivals compared to the previous year, with total arrivals reaching 1,335,632 bales as of August 31, 2025.
The consolidated statement released by PCGA, compiled in joint cooperation
with the Karachi Cotton Association (KCA), shows that Pakistan's cotton
factories received 1,335,632 bales this season, marking a notable improvement
from last year's 1,225,946 bales.
This represents an increase of 109,686 bales, signaling a positive trend
for the country's textile industry.
The fortnightly flow of cotton has also shown remarkable improvement, with
448,231 bales arriving in the latest period compared to 150,918 bales during
the same period last year.
This nearly three-fold increase indicates strong momentum in the cotton
harvest season.
Sindh province emerged as the star performer, contributing 870,062 bales
with an impressive 12.54% increase from the previous year's 773,091 bales.
The province added 96,971 bales to the national tally, demonstrating the
effectiveness of agricultural policies and favorable growing conditions.
Sanghar district led the provincial charge with 615,800 bales arrived,
representing a solid 8.10% increase from the previous year.
Hyderabad contributed 57,912 bales, though experiencing a slight decline
of 2.73%.
The most remarkable performances came from Sukkur and Khairpur districts,
with Sukkur showing extraordinary growth of 235.16% contributing 24,400 bales,
while Khairpur recorded exceptional growth of 317.86% with 11,700 bales,
demonstrating the expanding cotton cultivation in these regions.
Punjab province, traditionally Pakistan's cotton hub, recorded arrivals of
465,570 bales, representing a modest but positive 2.81% increase from last
year's 452,855 bales.
The province added 12,715 bales to its previous year's tally.
Among the notable districts in Punjab, Vehari led the province with 87,262
bales, showing steady 3.51% growth. Khanewal contributed significantly with
71,401 bales, though experiencing a 3.08% decline from the previous year.
The most impressive performance came from Dera Ghazi Khan, which recorded
remarkable growth of 131.37% with 68,418 bales, while Sahiwal contributed
48,181 bales despite experiencing a notable 30.31% decline.

Baluchistan province contributed 47,600 bales with a strong 56.32%
increase, adding 17,150 bales compared to the previous year's 30,450 bales,
showcasing the potential of cotton cultivation in the region.
The cotton ginning and pressing operations have been highly efficient,
with 1,192,049 bales pressed from the total arrivals.
Sales performance has been robust, with 1,134,932 bales sold exclusively
to textile mills, while no significant sales were recorded to exporters,
traders, or the Trading Corporation of Pakistan (TCP).
The current unsold stock stands at 200,700 bales, significantly higher
than last year's 53,564 bales, indicating either strategic stockpiling or
market timing considerations by industry stakeholders.
The number of operational factories has increased to 299 from 272 last
year, representing a 9.9% growth in processing capacity.
This expansion includes 130 factories in Punjab (up from 100) and 169 in
Sindh (down from 172), with 11 facilities in Baluchistan.
The substantial increase in cotton arrivals comes as welcome news for
Pakistan's textile industry, which has been seeking stable raw material
supplies.
The improved fortnightly flow suggests sustained production momentum,
which should benefit both domestic textile manufacturers and export-oriented
units.
The data indicates that Pakistan's cotton sector is on a recovery
trajectory, with Sindh leading the charge and Punjab maintaining steady
production levels.
The increased factory operations and improved arrival figures suggest
optimism in the industry, though the higher unsold stock levels warrant
monitoring of market demand dynamics.
