September 24, 2025 (MLN):  Pakistan has urged the International Monetary Fund (IMF) to take into account the devastating impact of recent floods while reviewing the country’s performance.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif raised the issue during his meeting with IMF Managing Director Kristalina Georgieva on the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) in New York, according to Bloomberg.

Lately, Pakistan has been active on multiple diplomatic fronts at the UNGA, with Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar reaffirming Islamabad’s commitment to deepening ties with the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC).

Sharif said Pakistan had been making steady progress in meeting the targets and commitments of the IMF program, noting that the country’s economy was showing signs of stabilization and moving toward recovery.

“Today, with deep-rooted structural reforms, Pakistan’s economy is showing positive signs of stabilization and moving toward recovery,” Prime Minister Shehbaz said.

He also appreciated the IMF’s support in this regard, which had been instrumental in guiding the government’s economic reform efforts.

IMF Managing Director Kristalina Georgieva expressed solidarity with those affected by Pakistan’s devastating floods, stressing the importance of damage assessments to help define recovery priorities.

She also lauded Sharif’s commitment to sound macroeconomic management and assured him of the Fund’s continued support.

The IMF is set to conduct a mission to review Pakistan’s economy in the coming weeks. The outcome will determine the release of the next tranche of the $7billion loan program.
