March 11, 2026 (MLN): Pakistan has reaffirmed its commitment to stand firmly with Saudi Arabia whenever required.
This development indicates deep strategic and defence ties between the two countries amid growing geopolitical tensions in the Middle East.
Speaking in an interview with Bloomberg TV, Prime Minister’s spokesperson Mosharraf Zaidi said Pakistan’s support for the Kingdom is unequivocal and not conditional on circumstances.
“There is no question we might — we will, no matter what and no matter when,” Zaidi said. “Both countries, even before the defense agreement, have always operated on the principle of being there for the other.”
His remarks came against the backdrop of a Strategic Mutual Defense Agreement signed between Pakistan and Saudi Arabia in September 2025, under which any aggression against either country would be treated as an attack on both.
Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif signed the landmark agreement during his official visit to Riyadh, where he held talks with Crown Prince and Prime Minister Mohammed bin Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud at the Al-Yamamah Palace.
The pact aimed to deepen defense cooperation, strengthen joint deterrence capabilities, and promote regional and global security through closer military coordination.
During the visit, both leaders reviewed the longstanding partnership between Pakistan and Saudi Arabia, which has spanned nearly eight decades.
They reiterated their shared commitment to regional peace, stability, and prosperity.
The latest remarks by Pakistan’s leadership reaffirmed Pakistan’s continued diplomatic and strategic alignment with Riyadh amid elevated tensions in the Middle East.
